Wèi Huácún 魏華存 (252–334), zì Xiánān 賢安, posthumous title Zǐ xū yuán jūn 紫虛元君 (“Primal Lady of Purple Tenuity”) and Nán yuè fū rén 南嶽夫人 (“Lady of the Southern Marchmount”) — the founding matriarch of the Shàng qīng 上清 (Highest Clarity) Daoist tradition. According to the canonical hagiography (compiled by Yán Lìběn 顏立本 and elaborated in Táng materials), she was a daughter of the late-Wèi/Western-Jìn official Wèi Shū 魏舒, married Liú Wén 劉文 of Liúyáng 劉幼彥, bore two sons, and from age twenty-four undertook a strict regimen of fasting and visualization. Tradition holds that she received the Shàng qīng revelations from the perfected (most prominently the Wáng Bāo 王褒 and Jǐng Lín 景林 lineages), transmitted them in 31 juàn including the Huáng tíng nèi jǐng jīng 黃庭內景經 (cf. KR5i0011), and at her death “transformed by her sword” 尸解, ascending to govern the Southern Marchmount (Héngshān 衡山). She subsequently became the principal revealer in the great Shàng qīng dispensation of 364–370 to Yáng Xī 楊羲, posthumously transmitting fresh scriptures to the Xǔ family and so founding the Máoshān lineage. From the Sòng onward she is one of the most-invoked tutelary deities in Daoist spirit-writing (fújī 扶乩) cults; numerous Sòng–Qīng prefaces, scriptures, and yǔ lù are signed in her name as 紫虛元君 or 南嶽魏夫人 — see e.g. her preface to KR5i0003 dated 1709. Such later attributions are pseudepigraphical and reflect the standard mediumistic conventions of late-imperial Quánzhēn / Lóngmén communities, not the historical Lady Wèi.
