Qiú Zhào’áo 仇兆鰲 (1638–1717)
Zì Cāngzhù 滄柱. Native of Yínxiàn 鄞縣 (modern Níngbō, Zhèjiāng). Qīng Kāngxī-period scholar-official; jìnshì of Kāngxī 24 (1685), aged 47. Successively biānxiū 編修 of the Hànlínyuàn, Hànlín shìjiǎng 翰林侍講, and lìbù shìláng 吏部侍郎; retired ca. 1707, died 1717.
His monumental scholarly contribution is the Dù shī xiángzhù 杜詩詳註 KR4c0020 — the standard pre-modern critical edition of Dù Fǔ 杜甫 — submitted to the Kāngxī court in 1693 in 25 juǎn (23 of poetry + 2 of prose), with a further 2-juǎn Bǔzhù completed in retirement. The book superseded the entire SòngYuán Qiānjiā zhù tradition and remains the principal pre-modern reference; it is the base text of Stephen Owen’s 6-volume 2016 English translation and of the Zhōnghuá 1979 standard modern reprint.
His parallel scholarly project, the Lǎozǐ Héshànggōng zhù bǔzhù 老子河上公註補注 (1707), is also influential in Qīng Lǎozǐ studies. CBDB has no entry, but the meta date 1638–1717 is the standard reference figure.
