Liáng-dynasty exegetical master, native of Fùchūn 富春 in Wújùn 吳郡 (modern Fùyáng 富陽 in Zhèjiāng), lay surname Sūn 孫. Together with Fǎyún 法雲 (467–529) and Zhìzàng 智藏 (458–522) he forms the conventional triad of “three great Liáng dharma-masters” (梁三大法師). A leading exponent of the southern Chéngshí 成實 tradition. He was resident at Zhuāngyánsì 莊嚴寺 in the southern capital. Disciples include Zhìxué 智學 and Huìqìng 慧慶.

His scholarly output is reported at over a hundred juan in the SòngGāosēng tradition; the most celebrated work is the ten-juan Chéngshílùn yìshū 成實論義疏. As an imperial commission of Tiānjiān 7 (508), Liáng Wǔdì charged him with the original 88-juan canonical epitome Zhòngjīng yàochāo 眾經要抄 — the project from which Bǎochàng’s 寶唱 Jīnglǜ yìxiàng (KR6s0001) was subsequently developed (Tiānjiān 15, 516). He also worked on poetic prosody (Sìshēng zhǐguī 四聲指歸) and on the resolution of doubtful authorships in the Shījīng (Shīpǔ juéyí 詩譜決疑).
