Diāo Zhìmíng 刁質明 ( Shǒuyú 守愚; late-Qīng / early Republican), throat-medicine (hóukē 喉科) physician of Wàishā 外沙 (outer-sandbank district), Chóngmíng 崇明 (Yangtze-estuary island, now a district of Shànghǎi). Son of 刁步忠 Diāo Bùzhōng, from whom he received the family throat-medicine tradition. Practised at the Yánshòu yīshì 延壽醫室 (Hall of Extended Life). Studied as a youth under “Gāo fūzǐ” 高夫子 together with Yáng Hànchūn 楊漢春 (later principal of the Chóngmíng Sixth Lower Primary School), and was the teacher of Shěn Guānghàn 沈光漢. Author of the Hóukē jiāxùn 喉科家訓 (KR3em038), the four-juǎn family-tradition throat-medicine handbook he redacted in 1918 (preface dated Mínguó 7, 1918) from his father’s manuscript notes, and which was printed in 1924 (Mínguó 13) under the auspices of the Sānsān yīshè 三三醫社. Catalog meta lists his father Diāo Bùzhōng as author and assigns the work to the Qīng; the redacted received recension is, however, his early-Republican production. CBDB has no entry.
