Dàhuì 大惠 (sometimes written 大慧) was a late-Míng Buddhist monk known principally for the ten-fascicle KR6n0046 Chéng wéishí lùn zìkǎo 成唯識論自攷 (X51n0823) — one of the half-dozen major late-Míng commentaries on KR6n0016 Chéng wéishí lùn. No biographical material survives independently of the work; he is to be distinguished from earlier and unrelated figures of the same Buddhist name (most notably the great Sòng-period Chán master Dàhuì Zōnggǎo 大慧宗杲, 1089–1163, with whom he is sometimes confused). Internal evidence places his composition in the Wànlì 萬曆 era. The “zìkǎo” 自攷 (“self-examined / privately checked”) title indicates that Dàhuì compiled the work over a long period for his own monastic study and only later released it for circulation.
