Tiānchì 天頙 (Kor. Ch’ŏnch’aek)
Goryeo Sŏn master (Chan master in the Korean tradition). Known by the honorific Zhēnjìng dà chánshī 真靜大禪師 (Kor. Chinjŏng taesŏnsa, “Great Chán Master of True Quietude”). Lay surname Sin 申; lay given names transmitted as Sin Kŭkchŏng 申克貞, Sin Mongch’a 申蒙且, and Sin Ch’ŏn’in 申天因; the Chán mén bǎo zàng lù preface signs him as Tiānchì with the alternate name Méngdàn 蒙旦. Born 1216 (per the DILA authority record, sourced to zhonghuadiancang.com); death year unrecorded.
Resident at the Nèiyuàn-táng 內願堂 (Inner-Vow Hall) of Yŏn’gok-sa 鷰谷寺. His signature identifies him as a Hǎidōng shāmén 海東沙門 (“śramaṇa of Korea”). The single surviving work securely attributed to him is the Chán mén bǎo zàng lù 禪門寶藏錄 KR6q0162, a three-juan Sŏn apologetic compilation defending the jiào wài bié chuán 教外別傳 (“separate transmission outside the teachings”) doctrine against doctrinal-school critics, completed between the eleventh month of 1293 and the third month of 1294 at Yŏn’gok-sa. Beyond this work and its brief postface testimonies, no independent biographical information is preserved.
