Rúqián 如乾 (Hānxiū Rúqián 憨休如乾)

Qīng Chán master of Sichuan. Hào Hānxiū 憨休 (“Foolish Rest”); also transliterated as Chāoqián 超乾. Native of Lóngānfǔ 龍安府 (Sichuan). Lifedates unrecorded; active late 17th – early 18th century.

Lineage. LínjìYángqí dharma-heir of Yúné Xǐ 雲峨喜 (1613–1676) at Fēngxuésì 風穴寺 — and thus dharma-grandson of Línyě Tōngqí 林野通奇 (1596–1652). Native of Shǔxī Lóngān 蜀西龍安 (Sìchuān); lay surname 胡.

Formation. 19 out of household; 22 full precepts; subsequent pilgrimage to JiāngZhè. 丁未 = 1667: visited Shàolín, met Yúné Xǐ at Fēngxué; six years’ attendance with eventual transmission. 康熙壬子 = 1672: opened dharma at Jīngyáng Xīngfú Chánsì 涇陽興福禪寺.

Nine abbacies. Subsequent moves to Guǎngjiào 廣教, Qīngfú 清福, Dūnhuáng 燉煌, Jīnsù 金粟. 甲子 = 1684 at Xīngshàn 興善 (Chángān). 戊辰 = 1688 succeeded teacher at Fēngxuésì.
