Sūn Xīngyǎn 孫星衍 (zì Yuānrú 淵如, also Bóyuān 伯淵 and Jìqiú 季逑; 1753–1818, native of Yánghú 陽湖, modern Chángzhōu, Jiāngsū) was one of the leading evidential-research scholars of the QiánJiā 乾嘉 era. He passed the jìnshì exam of 1787 (Qiánlóng 52) ranking second in the second tier, was appointed Hànlín 翰林 biānxiū 編修, and served as imperial diarist, then as judicial circuit intendant in Shāndōng. He retired in 1811 and was made the head of the famous Zhōngshān 鍾山 academy in Nánjīng for his final years.
Sūn’s scholarly output covers epigraphy (《寰宇訪碑錄》), philology (《尚書今古文注疏》, Shàngshū commentary), bibliography (《孫氏祠堂書目》), and cāngxué 倉學 (small-script and seal study). In medicine he is principally known for the 1799 reconstruction, with his nephew Sūn Féngyì 孫馮翼, of the Shénnóng běncǎo jīng KR3ec001 — a kǎojù-style restoration based on the Dàguān běncǎo and Tàipíng yùlǎn citations. He is also associated with the influential collectanea Píngjīnguǎn cóngshū 平津館叢書 and Dàinányínghuán 岱南陽寰 collectanea.
