Ān Xuán 安玄 (lifedates unknown; fl. Luòyáng late 180s CE) was a Parthian (安息) Buddhist upāsaka and military tribune (都尉) resident at the Eastern-Hàn capital Luòyáng under Hàn Líng-dì 漢靈帝 (r. 168–189). According to the Chū sānzàng jì jí 出三藏記集 (T2145, juan 13) and the Gāosēng zhuàn 高僧傳, he came to Luòyáng during the Guānghé 光和 era (178–184) on official duties, was raised to qí-dūwèi 騎都尉 (“cavalry tribune”) rank, and devoted himself to translating Buddhist scriptures. His translation activity was joint with the Hàn-Chinese śramaṇa 嚴佛調, with whom he produced (i) the Fǎjìng jīng 法鏡經 (T322), a translation of the Ugraparipṛcchā-sūtra — one of the earliest Mahāyāna paripṛcchā texts in Chinese; and (ii) [[KR6a0160|Āhán kǒujiě shí’èr yīnyuán jīng 阿含口解十二因緣經 (T1508)]], a short Āgama-derived exposition of the twelve nidānas. He is among the first Parthian lay translators after Ān Shìgāo and is sometimes treated in the modern literature (Zürcher, Nattier) as the bridge figure between the Parthian missionary translators and the first generation of Hàn-Chinese ordained translators.
