Mid-Míng official, poet, and literary critic; native of Jiādìng zhōu 嘉定州 (modern Lèshān 樂山, Sìchuān). Zì Gōngshí 公石; hào Yíshān 頤山, in old age Yíshān lǎonóng 頤山老農. Jìnshì of Hóngzhì 18 (1505), rising to Supervising Secretary of the Office of Scrutiny for Military Personnel (兵科給事中 Bīngkē jǐshìzhōng). Active in the early Jiājìng court remonstrance crisis (“Dàlǐ yì” 大禮議, 1521–24), in which he was a prominent voice opposing the emperor’s father-promotion programme; he was demoted and eventually retired to his native Jiādìng, where he passed his last years as the self-styled “Yíshān lǎonóng” and produced the Yíshān shīhuà 頤山詩話 (preface dated 1528). CBDB gives an index year of 1475 (consistent with a jìnshì of 1505); precise birth and death dates are not recorded in the standard biographical sources. Wáng Shìzhēn 王士禎 praised his poetic style as wǎnyuē 婉約 (gracefully restrained) and reprinted several of his pieces in the Chíběi ǒután 池北偶談.
