Zōngfǎ was a Southern Sòng Cáodòng 曹洞 monk, one of the sixteen named attendant-disciples (shìzhě 侍者) credited jointly as compilers of the Hóngzhì chánshī guǎnglù 宏智禪師廣錄 (KR6q0070, Taishō T48 n2001) of Hóngzhì Zhèngjué 宏智正覺 (1091–1157). Zōngfǎ was specifically the shìzhě who recorded the shàngtáng sermons of the Shūzhōu Tàipíng Xīngguó chányuàn 舒州太平興國禪院 period of Zhèngjué’s career (beginning Jìngkāng 2 = 1127), which are preserved in Guǎnglù juan 1. No independent biography, dates, or native place are recorded in DILA A000579 or in CBDB; the name survives only in editorial colophons. He is separate from the Japanese figure 宗法師 (DILA A000580) associated with the Nara-period 一乘佛性慧日抄.
