Zhāng Yuángàn 張元幹 (1091–1170 approx.; CBDB id 19699 gives 1092–1161, see below), Zhòngzōng 仲宗, hào Zhēnyǐn shānrén 真隱山人 also Lúchuān lǎoyǐn 蘆川老隱. Native-place uncertain — Zhōu Bìdà’s describes him as Chánglè 長樂 / Suīyáng 睢陽; Wáng Jùnmíng’s to the Yōuyán zūnzǔ lù describes him as Yǒngfú 永福. Both Sòng colophons; no resolution. Northern-Sòng jìnshì (date uncertain); under Huīzōng held an unspecified office; demoted under Qīnzōng. Internal evidence in KR4d0194: the Shàng Zhāng chéngxiàng shī says zuìfàng bǐngwǔ mò; guīlái xīnhài chū (banished at the end of bǐngwǔ = 1126; returned at the beginning of xīnhài = 1131), so he was demoted in 1126 and recalled in 1131. The self-colophon to Jì zǔmǔ Liú shì wén says: Xuānhé yuánnián (1119) 8th month — i.e. he was holding office in late Northern Sòng.

The famous Hè xīnláng 賀新郎 sending off Hú Quán 胡銓 胡銓 (1138) — preserved together with another Hè xīnláng on the same theme — is the principal aesthetic and political document of Zhāng’s career. Per Wáng Míngqīng’s Huīzhú lù, the act caused Zhāng’s expulsion from official ranks. The two Hè xīnláng manuscripts were obtained by Zhāng’s grandson Zhāng Qīnchén 張欽臣 from Hú Quán’s son.

Zhāng’s circle of poetic correspondents is well-documented in the collection: Sū Shì (he met Sū in his youth); Chén Guàn 陳瓘 (long-term friend); the poetry-society including Hóng Chú 洪芻, Hóng Yǎn 洪琰, Sū Jiān 蘇堅, Sū Xiáng 蘇庠, Pān Chún 潘淳, Lǚ Běnzhōng 呂本中, Wāng Zǎo 汪藻 汪藻, Xiàng Zǐyīn 向子諲. Also exchanged with Jiāng Duānyǒu 江端友, Wáng Zhì 王銍 王銍. His Yōuyán zūnzǔ lù (genealogical work) was endorsed in colophons by Liú Ānshì 劉安世, Yóu Zuò 游酢, Yáng Shí 楊時 KR4d0119, Lǐ Gāng 李綱, Zhū Sōng 朱松 朱松 — i.e. the principal Northern–Southern-Sòng Dàoxué and Yuányòu circles.

Catalog meta gives 1067–1143; CBDB id 19699 gives 1092–1161. The discrepancy is significant. The Sìkù editors of KR4d0194 note that internal evidence (the Sòng Chén shìláng shī preface implies guàguān (retirement) at age 41, and Zhāng’s grandson printed the collection in Jiādìng jǐmǎo = 1219) places his lifedates earlier than the CBDB suggestion. Modern scholarly consensus (e.g. Wáng Zhàopéng 王兆鵬’s Zhāng Yuángàn niánpǔ) places Zhāng’s lifedates at 1091–1170 or 1091–1175, with the catalog meta’s 1067 being too early and the CBDB’s 1092 close. The CBDB death-year of 1161 is too early; the Lúchuān cíjí contains pieces datable to Qiándào (1165–73). For this entry, lifedates 1091–1170 (approximately) are followed; the catalog meta entry should be reviewed.

His collection is Lúchuān guīlái jí 蘆川歸來集 KR4d0194 in 10 juǎn (Sìkù Yǒnglè dàdiǎn enrichment of an earlier 1219 imprint).
