Northern-Sòng statesman, calligrapher, ritualist and lay-Buddhist scholar; Tiānjué 天覺, hào Wújìn jūshì 無盡居士 (“the layman of the Inexhaustible”). Native of Xīnjīn 新津 (modern Sìchuān). Jìnshì of Zhìpíng 治平 2 (1065). Held a series of senior court offices including Tōngfèng dàfū shǒu Shàngshū yòu púshè jiān Zhōngshū shìláng 通奉大夫守尚書右僕射兼中書侍郎, Shàngzhùguó 上柱國, and was enfeoffed Qīnghéjùn kāiguógōng 清河郡開國公 with shíyì 食邑 of 2,900 households and shíshí fēng 食實封 of 900 — the very titles by which the colophon to [[KR5a0156|DZ 155 Sāncái dìngwèi tú]] introduces him. Briefly grand councillor (Zǎixiàng 宰相) under Huīzōng in 1110–1111. A close associate of the Buddhist chán master Yuánwù Kèqín 圜悟克勤 and the Daoist Línlíng sù 林靈素 milieu, he is celebrated for his synthesising religious interests. His Buddhist-canonical compositions in the Kanripo corpus include:

  • 《護法論》 Hùfǎ lùn (KR6r0147, T2114, 1 juan) — a Buddhist apologetic against Confucian critics of Buddhism, particularly Hán Yù 韓愈 and Ōuyáng Xiū 歐陽修.
  • 《續清涼傳》 Xù qīngliáng zhuàn (KR6r0135, T2100, 2 juan) — a personal-pilgrimage-cum-vision narrative of the author’s pilgrimages to Mount Wǔtái 五臺 (the third of the canonical GǔGuǎngXù qīngliáng trilogy of Wǔtái gazetteers).
