Mid- to late-Qīng (Qiánlóng–Jiā-qìng-era) LínjìYángqí Chán monk; native of Wǔlín 武林 (Hángzhōu). Original dharma-name Miàodé 妙德 (changed to Yuánfēng 元峯 to avoid the bìhuì “name-tabu” of his uncle Xiānglín 香林). often given as Yuánfēng 元峯, occasionally Yuánfēng lǎorén 元峯老人. Trained first under Huáishī 懷師 of Beijing; later received the xīnyìn (mind-seal) of the Qìngshān 磬山 line via Tiāntāo Yún 天濤雲 of Jīnshān. Resided at the imperially-built Xītiānsì 勅建西天寺 in Wǔlín. Died 嘉慶 wùwǔ 1/14 = 1798-03-01 per Zhèngyuán lüèjí j. 16. Two important Vajracchedikā commentaries: the eight-juan Jīngāng jīng fǎyǎn xuánpàn shūchāo 金剛經法眼懸判疏鈔 (KR6c0087, X25 no. 499) and the two-juan condensed Jīngāng jīng fǎyǎn zhùshū 金剛經法眼註疏 (KR6c0088, X25 no. 500); the latter prefaced Qiánlóng 40 = 1775.
