Yùn Jìng 惲敬 (1757–1817), zì Zǐjū 子居, hào Jiǎntāng 簡堂, native of Yánghú 陽湖, Chángzhōu, Jiāngsū. With 張惠言 Zhāng Huìyán, co-founder of the Yánghú 陽湖 school of gǔwén prose — the principal early-nineteenth-century rival to the Tóngchéng school. Jǔrén of Qiánlóng 48 (1783) but never advanced through the jìnshì examination. Served as sub-prefect and county magistrate in Jiāngxī (Wǔníng 武寧 and Nánfēng 南豐), known for vigorous administration. His prose program — distinctive from Tóngchéng’s 姚鼐 in integrating pián (parallel-prose) into the gǔwén line, on the historical ground that HànWèi prose was piánsàn jiānxíng 駢散兼行 — provided the late-Jiāqìng / Dàoguāng theoretical basis for the parallel-prose revival. Major works: Dàyúnshānfáng wéngǎo in three sub-collections (chūjí KR4f0063 / èrjí / yánshì); the Sān dài yīnyáng wǔxíng shuō 三代陰陽五行說 (a kǎozhèng reconstruction of pre-Qín cosmology); the Tōnglì 通例 (a systematic bibliographic-formal manual for biéjí compilation, prefixed to the chūjí).
