Huì-yán 慧嚴 (363–443), Liú-Sòng-period Buddhist scholar; one of the principal disciples of 鳩摩羅什 Kumārajīva at the Cháng’ān bureau, and later a major Liú-Sòng court Buddhist scholar. Per the Gāosēng zhuàn (T2059), he and Huì-guān 慧觀 were the leaders of the editorial team that produced [[KR6g0003|the Southern Recension of the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra]] (T0375, 36 fascicles) by re-editing 曇無讖 Dharmakṣema’s Northern Recension (T0374, 40 fasc.) in collaboration with 佛馱跋陀羅 Buddhabhadra’s earlier Fǎ-xiǎn-collaborative Pre-Niè-pán materials. Native of Yú-háng 餘杭 (in modern Zhèjiāng).
