Qī Jìguāng 戚繼光 (1528–1587), Yuánjìng 元敬, hào Nántáng 南塘, posthumously Wǔyì 武毅, was the most celebrated Late-Míng military commander, famed for his suppression of the wō kòu on the Zhè-Mǐn coast (1559–1567) and his subsequent reform of the northern frontier defences (1568–1582). Native of Pēnglái 蓬萊 (Shāndōng). His military reforms — based on training disciplined civilian-recruited qì jiā jūn 戚家軍 (“Qī family troops”) with new tactical formations and Western-influenced firearms — established the model for the late-Míng Chinese army. Major works in the SKQS: Jì xiào xīn shū 紀效新書 (KR3b0019, the foundational training manual based on Zhè-Mǐn coastal-defence experience, in 18 juan); Liàn bīng shí jì 練兵實紀 (KR3b0020, the parallel northern-frontier training manual).
