About the work
A 9-juan Late-Míng military training manual by Qī Jìguāng, composed during his northern-frontier command (1568–1582) at Jìzhèn 薊鎮 — the strategic command guarding the eastern approaches to Beijing. The work parallels and extends Qī’s earlier Jì xiào xīn shū (KR3b0019), with extensive adaptation for cavalry-and-firearms warfare appropriate to the northern frontier (versus the infantry-centric ZhèMǐn coastal context of the earlier work). Composition: bracketed by Qī’s Jìzhèn tenure (1568–1582). The frontmatter brackets to 1568–1582.
Abstract
The Liàn bīng shí jì is Qī’s mature military-doctrinal work, complementing the earlier Jì xiào xīn shū with the northern-frontier perspective. Together the two works are the principal Late-Míng military-doctrinal corpus.
