Běnjì 本寂
Cáoshān Běnjì 曹山本寂 (840–901), late-Táng Chán master, principal dharma-heir of Dòngshān Liángjiè; the figure after whom the “Cáo” of Cáodòng 曹洞 is named. Codified the wǔwèi 五位 (“five positions”) doctrinal system that became the signature apparatus of the Cáodòng school; his recorded sayings survive in the parallel recensions KR6q0068 and KR6q0069.
