Běnkāi 本開
Mid-seventeenth-century Línjì Chán monk, shìzhě 侍者 to Shíshuāng Ěrzhān Dázūn 石霜爾瞻達尊 (1608–1663). Head recorder (jìlù 記錄) of KR6q0420 《石霜爾瞻尊禪師語錄》 (Jiāxīng Canon J27 B200). The juan-head signature line reads “shìzhě Běnkāi jìlù 侍者本開記錄”.
The 本-generation character places Běnkāi in the Mùchén Dàomǐn line’s 本-generation cohort together with Běnshēng 本昇 (昇 at KR6q0409), Běnxiù 本秀 (the tǎmíng author for KR6q0420), and the larger Mù-chén-line 本-character generation. Although Dázūn’s direct teacher was Dùnsǒu Zhìjì rather than Mùchén, the Dùnsǒu sub-line shared the same generation-character convention with Mùchén’s line at the next level (本), suggesting a common Lóngchí Huànyǒu Zhèngchuán lineage-poem.
