Wāng Hào 汪灝

Early-Qīng court official and Hànlín compiler, fl. Kāngxī era. Native place not securely identified. CBDB has no entry. Career: served as jiānchá yùshǐ (investigating censor) of the Hénán circuit (rising to seven-rank addition), and as compiler in the Hànlín Academy. His career is documented in the prefatory materials of the Pèiwénzhāi guǎng qúnfāng pǔ — the great Kāngxī-era imperial flora.

Wāng was the principal designated compiler (biānxiū) of the Pèiwénzhāi guǎng qúnfāng pǔ 御定佩文齋廣羣芳譜 (KR3i0044) in 100 juàn, completed in Kāngxī 47 (1708) as a 100-juàn imperial expansion of Wáng Xiàngjìn’s 王象晉 Ming-period Qúnfāng pǔ. He shared chief-compiler credit with Zhāng Yìshào 張逸少, and was assisted by Wāng Lóng 汪漋 and Huáng Lóngméi 黃龍眉. The work’s printing was supervised by Liú Hào 劉灝 (a different person, the printing-superintendent).

His exact lifedates are not documented; the Kāngxī 47 (1708) date of the work’s completion places his active service in the c. 1690s–1710s.
