Hǎiyán 海鹽

Mid-late seventeenth-century Línjì Chán monk, dharma-heir of Jièwéi Xíngzhōu 介為行舟 (1611–1670) in the Wànrú Tōngwēi sub-line of the Mìyún Yuánwù lineage. Co-compiler (děng biān 等編) of KR6q0424 《介為舟禪師語錄》 (Jiāxīng Canon J28 B205). The tǎmíng identifies him as the principal sìfǎ 嗣法 (“shǒu Chāoxiū fǎsì Hǎiyán děng jù zhuàng lái qǐ míng 首超修法嗣海鹽等具狀來乞銘” — “head among Chāoxiū’s 超修 dharma-heirs, Hǎiyán and others brought the zhuàng requesting the tǎmíng”) — suggesting Hǎiyán is a grand-dharma-son of Xíngzhōu via Chāoxiū 超修 (the 超-generation heir who executed the pagoda-burial in 1671).

The 海-generation character aligns with the standard 33→34-generation Línjì naming scheme in this sub-line (行 → 海 / 本 parallel conventions at the 34th-generation level). Native place, lay surname, and lifedates unrecovered. No independent works survive under his name.
