Anonymous late-Qīng physician signing himself as the Ránxī dàorén 燃犀道人 (“Rhino-horn-Burning Daoist,” after the Jìnshū legend of 溫嶠 Wēn Qiáo burning a rhino-horn to see into the river-demon depths). Sole documented work is KR3er107 Ōugǔ ránxī lù 歐蠱燃犀錄 (Guāngxù 19 / 1893), a learned medical-exorcistic treatise on gǔ 蠱 (poison-magic / sorcery-illness) explicitly responding to the Guāngxù dīngchǒu 光緒丁丑 / 1877 “yāorén” 妖人 panic in southern China (the sorcery-panic in which people were reported having had their clothes cut with paper-soldier amulets or marked with five-coloured prints).
