Wáng Zhū 王洙

Yuánshū 原叔. Native of Sòngchéng 宋城 (Yīngtiānfǔ 應天府, modern Shāngqiū, Henán). Polymath learning: classics, calligraphy, mathematics, yīnyáng cosmology. Hanlin academician (Hànlín xuéshì 翰林學士); Shǐguǎn jiǎntǎo 史館檢討 at the Imperial History Office.

Rediscovered in the imperial library Zhāng Zhòngjǐng’s 張仲景 long-lost Jīnguì yùhán yàolüè fāng 金匱玉函要略方 in 3 juan — the editorial foundation of the transmitted Jīnguì yàolüè 金匱要略 canonical in later Chinese medicine. Served as one of the three principal compilers, with 王堯臣 and 歐陽修, of the Chóngwén zǒngmù 崇文總目 (KR2n0001, submitted 1041).

Aligned with Fàn Zhòngyān’s 范仲淹 reform faction; demoted to Háozhōu 濠州 in the aftermath of the collapse of the Qìnglì 慶曆 reforms (1044). Sayings preserved in Wángshì tánlù 王氏談錄. Lifedates: 997–1057 (standard figures).
