Zhēnxù 真續, zì Zhúfēng 竹峰 (“Bamboo Peak”); often referred to as Zhāojué Zhúfēng 昭覺竹峰. LínjìYángqí dharma-heir of Fóyuān Chègāng 佛冤徹綱 (1626–?). Born 順治十七年庚子四月初八日辰時 = 1660-05-16 Gregorian (Buddha’s Birthday); death year unknown. Native of Sōngzhōu 松州 (Sìchuān); lay surname Shěn 沈.
Formation. Sent at age 1 to Sōngzhōu Miàojuésì 松州妙覺寺 to be raised by Rúshān 如山師. Took full ordination under Shēnghuì 生慧和尚. One day reading the Lotus Sūtra at the line “fù shǎo ér zǐ lǎo” 父少兒子老 (the father young, the son old), doubt arose. Left home for Zhāojuésì 昭覺寺 to cān under Zhàngxuě 丈和尚 (= Zhàngxuě Tōngzuì), stayed a year. Three years later returned to Zhāojué where Fóyuān 佛冤和尚 had become abbot. One night at the fifth-watch, on hearing the morning bell, suddenly felt great ease; presented his understanding for testing and received final fùfǎ.
Abbacies (five Sìchuān seats). Wēifèng Zhāojué 威鳳昭覺 (the historic Sìchuān LínjìYángqí mother-temple); Miàojué Chóngshàn 妙覺崇善; Xīlóng Dàbēi 西龍大悲; Xīchóng Wúliàng 西崇無量; Fènghuáng Fǎzàng 鳳凰法藏.
Disciples. Eighty-three (!) fǎsì listed (one of the largest in J40), including Déyún Shíwù 德雲實悟 實悟 (compiler), Yǒutáng Déjì 有堂德紀, Jìnghuái Zhèngyì 敬懷正義, plus six lay disciples (Qiáo Yīnggāo 喬應高, Fāng Liándēng 方聯登, Shěn Guóxiāng 沈國鄉, etc.).
