Zǔqīn 祖欽
Late-Southern-Sòng / early-Yuán Yángqí-branch Línjì Chán master, hào Xuěyán 雪巖 (“Snow-Cliff”), also Huìlǎng 慧朗. Per DILA and the master’s own 70th-birthday New Year’s sermon: 1216 – 1287/88, shì ≈72.
Principal dharma-heir of 師範 Wújùn Shīfàn (1178–1249); teacher of Gāofēng Yuánmiào 高峰原妙 (1238–1295), who in turn taught Zhōngfēng Míngběn 中峰明本 (1263–1323). Xuěyán–Gāofēng–Zhōngfēng is the three-generation backbone of the dominant late-medieval Línjì line. Six abbacies: Tánzhōu Lóngxìng, Xiāngxī Dàolín, Nánmíng Fórì, Xiānjū Hùshèng, Húzhōu Guāngxiào, and Yuánzhōu Yǎngshān (whence Yǎngshān Xuěyán 仰山雪巖). Recorded sayings: Xuěyán Zǔqīn chánshī yǔlù (KR6q0330). Principal named dharma-heirs include 昭如 Hǎiyìn Zhāorú (author of KR6q0331) and 希陵 Xūgǔ Xīlíng.
