Shíqí Tōngyún 石奇通雲 (1594–1663), zì Shíqí 石奇, also known as Xuědòu Shíqí 雪竇石奇 after his principal abbacy. Late-Míng / early-Qīng Línjì (Yángqí-branch) Chán master, dharma-heir of Mìyún Yuánwù 密雲圓悟 (1566–1642) — and thus a dharma-brother of Wǔfēng Rúxué 如學 五峰如學 and Mùyún Tōngmén 牧雲通門, and a dharma-uncle of Yǎngzhuō Zhèngmíng 正明. Native of Lóudōng 婁東 (Tàicāng, Jiāngsū), lay surname Xú 徐. Tonsured in youth at Lóudōng Nánguǎngsì 南廣寺 after a grave illness that brought him a luminous vision; set by an elder on the fùmǔ wèishēng qián 父母未生前 huàtóu. After travelling to Pǐngyáo Xiǎnshèng 缾窑顯聖, his doubt-mass broke into full force; he then sought Mìyún Yuánwù at Tiāntóng, remained on the master’s zuǒyòu 左右 for thirteen years, and was finally sealed by Mìyún’s staff-blow at a single wordless entry. In Chóngzhēn 10 (1637) he entered a three-year closed-gate bìguān 閉關 at Pǔrùnyuàn 普潤院; in Chóngzhēn 14 (1641), at Mìyún’s command, he took up the abbacy of Língjiù Chánsì 靈鷲禪寺 in Tāizhōu 台州 and launched his teaching career. He went on to preside successively over Tiān-tai Jǐngxīngyán Jìngjū Chánsì 天台景星巖淨居禪寺, Xuědòushān Zīshèngsì 雪竇山資聖寺 (his most famous seat, whence the epithet Xuědòu Shíqí), Pǔrùn Chányuàn 普潤禪院, Císhuǐ Xiāngshān Chánsì 慈水香山禪寺, the Yǒngjiā Tóutuóshān Mìyìn Chánsì 永嘉頭陀山密印禪寺 (a Zhèjiāng Mìyìnsì not to be confused with the Húnán Dàwéi Mìyìnsì), and his home-temple Lóudōng Nánguǎng Chánsì. Died Kāngxī 2.1.10 rénwǔ (10 January 1663 lunar = 17 February 1663 Gregorian) shortly after setting out to return to Xuědòu; shìshòu 70, sēnglà 45. His twelve principal dharma-heirs include Zhànān Xíngcháng 湛菴行常, Fǎchuáng Xíngzhì 法幢行幟, Lǜmù Xíngzhì 律牧行制, Hóngyuǎn Xíngshào 宏遠行紹, and Shānfū Xíngzhèng 行正 山夫行正 — the last being the compiler of his quánlù. Surviving complete work: KR6q0405 《雪竇石奇禪師語錄》 15 juan in the Jiāxīng Canon (J26 B183), cut by Xíngzhèng at Jiāhé in Kāngxī 7 (1668) from previously circulating partial blocks, framed by prefaces by the yímín Wú Xìng 吳性 (hào Cháiān) and the Jiāng-yīn-martyr Huáng Yùqí 黃毓祺, with the closing tǎmíng by the top Qīng-court grand secretary Jīn Zhījùn 金之俊 (1593–1670) dated Kāngxī 5 (1666). The Xùzàng X82n1571 reference under his name is an abridged Zhèngyuán lüèjí cluster, not the complete block. Within the Kanripo corpus he also appears as the front-xù 序 author of KR6q0401, the Dàwéi Mìyìnsì Yǎngzhuō Míng chánshī yǔlù.
