Northern-Sòng scholar-official and lexicographer, zì Yǒngnián 永年, of Nánchéng 南城 (Jiāngnánxī, modern Jiangxi). Granted jìnshì status under Tàizōng (Tàipíngxīngguó 8 / 983), he rose through the Hànlín to senior court positions including Hànlín xuéshì and Lǐbù shàngshū. He is the principal editor of two foundational Northern-Sòng lexicographic projects: the Chóngxiū Yùpiān KR1j0022 / Dàguǎng yìhuì Yùpiān KR1j0056 of Dàzhōngxiángfú 6 (1013), thoroughly revising Sūn Qiáng’s 孫強 Táng recension; and the Chóngxiū Guǎngyùn KR1j0055 (Dàzhōngxiángfú 1, 1008), which converts Lù Fǎyán’s Suí-period Qièyùn and Sūn Miǎn’s Táng-period Tángyùn into the canonical Sòng rhyme-book — for the next 800 years the standard reference in Chinese phonology. His collaborator Qiū Yōng 丘雍 worked alongside him on both projects. CBDB lifedates 961–1017, in agreement with the Sòngshǐ biography (juàn 287).
