Yán Jìzǔ 顏繼祖 (d. 1639), zì Shéngqí 繩其, hào Tónglán 同蘭, studio-style Yòuhóngtáng 又紅堂; native of Lóngxī 龍溪 (Zhāngzhōu prefecture, Fújiàn; modern Lónghǎi). Tóngjìnshì of Wànlì 47 / jǐwèi (1619). Served as xíngrén, Gōngkē jǐshìzhōng (1628), and successively Yòu jǐshìzhōng (1629), Hùkē yòu jǐshìzhōng (1630), Zuǒ jǐshìzhōng (1631), Lìkē dūjǐshìzhōng (1631), and Tàichángsì shàoqīng (1632). In Chóngzhēn 9 / 1636 appointed Yòu fù dū yùshǐ and Shāndōng xúnfǔ (Grand Coordinator of Shāndōng). His preface to 施邦曜’s Yángmíng xiānshēng jí yào (KR4e0245) is preserved among the SBCK prefaces. In the winter of Chóngzhēn 11 / 1638 the Qīng army broke through Jūyōngguān and pressed south through Shāndōng; under orders from Yáng Sìchāng 楊嗣昌 to hold Dézhōu, Yán left Jǐnán undefended, the Qīng army stormed it, the Prince of Dé (Zhū Yóushū) was captured, and several provincial officials died on duty. Yán impeached Yáng Sìchāng and requested his own dismissal, but the Chóngzhēn emperor instead imprisoned him and executed him in the marketplace in Chóngzhēn 12 / 1639. CBDB 63703.
