Early Republican-era physician of Héxiàn 和縣 (Ānhuī). Working with the Sānsān yīshū 三三醫書 editor 裘吉生 Qiú Jíshēng, Gāo carried out a philological investigation (kǎo 考) in c. 1925 of the textual history of 江之蘭 Jiāng Zhīlán’s Yījīn yī fá 醫津一筏 (1662 — KR3er103), confirming that the previously circulating Yījīng mìzhǐ 醫經秘旨 (KR3er105) was a re-titled pirated extract from the first ten essays of the Jiāng original. Gāo’s kǎo is the principal modern philological recovery of Jiāng’s authorship; the Sānsān yīshū edition of the Yījīn yī fá is the textus receptus of modern Chinese-medical study of the work. Gāo’s other principal scholarly contribution is documented in this collaboration with Qiú Jíshēng’s series.
