Língshū xīndé 靈樞心得

Heart-Achievements from Reading the Numinous Pivot by 胡文煥 (Hú Wénhuàn, fl. 1592–1604, 明) — editor / compiler

About the work

The Língshū xīndé in two juan is the companion anthology-commentary to Sùwèn xīndé (KR3ea020), assembled by the late-Míng Hángzhōu bookseller-scholar Hú Wénhuàn 胡文煥 ( Défǔ 德甫). It excerpts key Língshū passages — on channel theory, acupoint location, needling technique, and disease-syndromology — under thematic headings, with brief glosses drawn from the Sùwèn and from 王冰 Wáng Bīng. The text is short and pedagogical, aimed at the general literate reader. The jicheng.tw source _000.txt carries Hú’s own short preface (signed Qiántáng Hú Wénhuàn Défǔ 錢塘胡文煥德甫識).

Prefaces

Hú’s preface (KR3ea028_000.txt) is a single paragraph addressing the question of duplication between the Língshū and Sùwèn: the two classics contain many overlapping question-and-answer passages, and even individual chapters within each contain repetition. Hú asks whether this is because the deeper doctrines deserve repetition, or because one passage is being cited to illuminate another. His anthology preserves some redundant passages and trims others, aiming for the gist rather than the comprehensive coverage.

Abstract

Like its sister anthology Sùwèn xīndé (KR3ea020) the Língshū xīndé is a commercial publication of Hú’s Wényǎtáng 文雅堂 (Hángzhōu, late 1590s). Its scholarly importance is minor — it presents no original textual or interpretive scholarship — but it stands as an early-modern witness to how the Língshū was selectively read for clinical pedagogy in the late Míng. Catalog meta gives 胡文渙 with 渙 in place of 煥; this is a recurring typographical variant in the late-Míng prints and refers to the same person (cf. Hú Wénhuàn’s note in KR3ea020).
