The definitive Republican-era re-edition of 俞根初 Yú Gēnchū’s late-18th-century Shàoxīng vernacular Shānghán treatise, the Tōngsú Shānghán lùn 通俗傷寒論. The work is one of the most important integrations of the Shānghán and wēnbìng traditions in late-Qīng Zhèjiāng medicine, with substantial editorial expansion by Hé Liánchén. The 1934 edition was published posthumously by the Shàoxīng yīyào xué bào 紹興醫藥學報 press, edited by 何廉臣 Hé Liánchén.
Abstract
Yú Gēnchū’s original Tōngsú Shānghán lùn was composed in QiánlóngJiāqìng times (late 18th century), at Shàoxīng. It circulated in manuscript and in modest local prints for over a century. Hé Liánchén’s Zēngdìng (Expanded) edition of 1916 (KR3ef031) was the first thoroughly re-edited modern version; the Chóngdìng (Re-edited) version published posthumously in 1934 by Hé’s son 何聲山 Hé Shèngshān represents Hé’s final corrections and additions. The work integrates Shàoxīng-school clinical doctrine with the broader Qīng Shānghán and wēnbìng commentarial traditions; it is a foundational document of modern Zhèjiāng-school medicine.
