About the work
A two-juǎn manuscript transcription of further cases of 繆遵義 Miù Sōngxīn (1710–1793), recovered by the Jiāxīng 嘉禾 physician 董受芝 Dǒng Shòuzhī from a manuscript he obtained “from a Sūzhōu book-dealer,” and prepared for publication with a preface by 張龢芬 Zhāng Héfēn of Cíxī 慈溪 dated guǐchǒu dōngrì (1913, winter).
Prefaces
The hxwd _000.txt carries a preface signed Cíxī Zhāng Héfēn shū yú Hǎi- (the rest cut off in the preview) dated guǐchǒu dōngrì (1913). The preface frames the work in the medical-historiographical lineage of 古今醫案 Gǔjīn yīàn (Yú Zhèn), 名醫類案 Míngyī lèiàn (Jiāng Guàn), 葉氏指南 Yèshì zhǐnán (Yè Tiānshì), Wújí Sānjiā yīàn (Wú Jīnshòu’s compilation = KR3ep020), 吳門治驗錄 Wúmén zhìyàn lù, and the works of 王士雄 Wáng Shìxióng of Qiánzhāi 潛齋 and Liǔ Bǎoyí 柳寶詒 of Jiāngyīn 江陰 (KR3ep021, KR3ep022). Zhāng praises the recovered Miù manuscript as a “secret formula of the dragon palace” 龍宮秘方, with discussion as penetrating as Yù Jiāyán’s and clinical agility as alive as Yè Tiānshì’s, and notes that “the àn (cases) mention ‘my own clan brother Zhòngchún 仲醇’,” confirming the author’s surname as Miù 繆 — the same family as the Míng physician Miù Xīyōng 繆希雍 (字 Zhòngchún 仲醇, 1546–1627).
Abstract
The text is a Republican-period salvage publication of mid-Qīng case-material — Miù Zūnyì’s clinical practice (c. 1740–1793) finally reaching print in 1913 through Dǒng Shòuzhī’s manuscript acquisition. The composition window 1740–1913 brackets the original clinical period through the Republican-period editorial assembly.
Together with KR3ep073 Miù Sōngxīn yīàn, the present work constitutes the principal documentary record of Miù Zūnyì’s clinical practice. The two texts overlap in some cases but each preserves material not found in the other; collation of the two yields the most complete Miù Sōngxīn casebook.
