About the work
A one-juǎn clinical-theoretical compendium by Shào Cānzhī — Republican-era hometown-teacher physician of the small-town Lánxī Nǚbù 蘭溪女埠 (in Zhèjiāng), self-taught in medicine through Confucian classical-reading methodology of marginal-annotation (zhájì 札記). The work came to public attention only after the editor / friend (徐 Xú) saw the manuscript via the Lánxī Zhōngyī zhuānmén xuéxiào 蘭溪中醫專門學校 — the Lánxī specialty Chinese-medicine school founded by 張山雷 Zhāng Shānléi (1873–1934, the major early-Republican Chinese-medical-school founder of KR3eq071 (this work) and the broader Lánxī school medical-education programme). Xú’s son was studying under Zhāng Shānléi at the Lánxī school when Xú learned of Shào’s manuscript through Zhāng’s recommendation. The Xú preface frames the work as one of the most “Zhèngquè tòupì” 正確透闢 (accurate-and-penetrating) of the early-Republican literatus-physician output.

The hxwd _000.txt opens with the Xú preface (徐序) — a friend’s preface recording how the Xú learned of Shào’s work through Zhāng Shānléi at the Lánxī Zhōngyī school, and emphasizing that the Shénzhōu yībào 神州醫報 monthly had begun publishing extracts of Shào’s writing.
Abstract
Shào Cānzhī 邵餐芝 (fl. 1920s–1930s), Republican-era Zhèjiāng physician based in the small town of Lánxī Nǚbù 蘭溪女埠, was a hometown-teacher who developed a substantial medical scholarship through Confucian-classical reading methodology while serving in his local elementary school. His work came to broader public attention only through Zhāng Shānléi’s recommendation and the Shanghai Shénzhōu yībào 神州醫報 monthly’s publication of extracts. The composition window 1925–1935 reflects Shào’s productive period and the post-Zhāng Shānléi (1873–1934) circulation. The work entered Chinese circulation via the late-Qīng / Republican Hǎiwài huíliú zhōngyī gǔjí (hxwd) repatriation programme.
Historiographical significance: the Sùxuān yīyǔ is a particularly useful source for the early-Republican small-town literatus-physician tradition — the local-scholar medical practice that operated outside the major medical-school institutional structures (Shanghai / Sūzhōu / Hangzhou) but was networked into the broader Chinese-medical reform programme through figures like Zhāng Shānléi at the Lánxī school.
