Shānghán lùn shù yì 傷寒論述義
Expounding the Meaning of the Shāng-hán lùn by 丹波元堅 (撰)
About the work
The Shānghán lùn shù yì 傷寒論述義 (“Expounding the Meaning of the Shānghán lùn”), 5 juàn, by 丹波元堅 Tamba no Motokata, is the doctrinal-supplement to his father 丹波元簡 Tamba no Mototane’s philological collation of the Shānghán lùn — the Shānghán lùn jí yì 傷寒論輯義 (1812). Where Mototane’s Jí yì fixes the critical text and gathers prior commentaries, Motokata’s Shù yì offers his own integrating doctrinal exposition, working through the canonical six-channel chapters with attention to prescription-application logic and clinical-pattern correlation.
Abstract
The work belongs to a paired Shānghán / Jīnguì doctrinal-supplement set produced by Motokata: the Shānghán lùn shù yì paired with the Jīnguì yùhán yàolüè shù yì 金匱玉函要略述義 (KR3eu049), both supplementing his father’s two corresponding jí yì collations. The doctrinal stance is the orthodox literate-physician position of the Tamba circle: scrupulous attention to the canonical Sòng text-order, integration of all major post-Sòng commentaries (including the imperial Yīzōng jīnjiàn), and a cautious clinical-application apparatus.
Composition window 1827–1857. For Motokata’s biography and full publication list see his person note; for the companion works see KR3eu046 Shānghán guǎng yào and KR3eu049 Jīnguì yùhán yàolüè shù yì.
