A supplementary apparatus to Chén Jǐngyuán’s main Zhuāngzǐ philological work [[KR5c0129|DZ 736 Nán huá zhēn jīng zhāng jù yīn yì]]. Preserved as DZ 737 / CT 737 (Dòngshén bù, Yù jué lèi 洞神部玉訣類). As its title indicates (yú shì 餘事 = “remnant matters”), this work collects miscellaneous philological-scholarly notes and observations that did not fit into the main apparatus — including additional variant-readings, textual-critical cross-references, and bibliographical addenda.

The Yú shì supplement:

1. Records additional philological observations not included in the main Yīn yì apparatus.
2. Provides a further list of pre-Sòng Zhuāngzǐ commentators (expanding the list in the main work).
3. Offers miscellaneous scholarly notes on the Zhuāngzǐ’s reception and interpretation.

The list of commentators at the end of DZ 737 (at 20b) was cited by Chǔ Bóxiù (褚伯秀) in his 1265 DZ 734 (KR5c0127) compilation as one of his principal bibliographical sources.

No substantive authorial preface is preserved in the received DZ 737 text.

Abstract

The Yú shì is a minor but philologically-valuable supplement to Chén Jǐngyuán’s main Zhuāngzǐ apparatus. Together with KR5c0129, it constitutes the basic scholarly toolkit that Chén Jǐngyuán developed for reading the Zhuāngzǐ in the late Northern-Sòng period.

Dating. Undated. Composition must fall within Chén Jǐngyuán’s active period (1060s–1094), probably contemporary with or shortly after the 1084 main apparatus (KR5c0129). Per the project’s dating rule, the frontmatter gives 1080–1094 as a conservative window. Dynasty: 宋.
