Author

Hóu Shànyuān 侯善淵 is a well-documented Jīn-dynasty 金 Quán zhēn 全真 Daoist master, active in the late 12th century. He composed multiple commentaries on Daoist scriptures, of which several are preserved in the Daozang:

  • DZ 758 Cháng qīng jìng jīng zhù (present work).
  • DZ 632 Tài qīng tiān tóng hù mìng miào jīng zhù 太上太清天童護命妙經註.
  • Several other short commentaries.

Hóu Shànyuān’s commentary reflects the mature Jīn-era Quán zhēn interpretive tradition:

  1. Pedagogical clarity — colloquial register suitable for disciples.
  2. Nèi dān 內丹 alchemical framing.
