About the work
A single-fascicle pìyù-anthology of some 39 short narratives, compiled (集 jí) by the Latter-Qín bhikṣu 道略 Dàoluè. Signature: 「比丘道略集」. The opening contents-list enumerates: 「雀離寺師將沙彌下喻、聖王生九百九十九子喻、兄弟二人共為沙門喻、伎兒作種種伎喻、比丘被擯喻、目連與弟子下耆闍崛…」 (“The Sparrow-Departure Monastery’s upādhyāya with his śrāmaṇera parable; the Sage-King with 999 sons parable; the two brothers who became śramaṇa together parable…”).

No preface or postface; the only paratext is the compiler-signature.
Abstract
T207 is the third Taishō Zá pìyù jīng; see T204 for the series-overview. T207 is distinguished by being a jí (editorial compilation) rather than a fresh translation: Dàoluè drew on the pìyù / avadāna material in 鳩摩羅什 Kumārajīva’s translation circle and selected and arranged the narratives. The bracket 405–412 corresponds to Kumārajīva’s Cháng’ān period under whose patronage Dàoluè worked. The companion compilation T208 Zhòngjīng zhuànzá pìyù is also Dàoluè’s, with similar editorial method.
