Abstract
K016 is Xuánzàng’s translation of the Vajracchedikā, prepared during his Yùhuágōng 玉華宮 Mahāprajñāpāramitā translation programme (660–663 CE). The Korean canonical-tradition K016 transmits this translation as a stand-alone text, parallel to its embedded form in T220 huì 9. The work represents Xuánzàng’s mature philological method applied to the Diamond Sūtra, and the choice of translation idiom — néngduàn jīngāng (“vajra-which-is-able-to-cut”) — preserves the Sanskrit vajra-cchedikā compound more closely than 鳩摩羅什 Kumārajīva’s jīngāng alone.
