The Diamond Sūtra: Sūtra-Meaning as Thus by 行敏 Xíngmǐn (述)
About the work
A two-juan early-Qīng Vajracchedikā commentary by Duànméi Xíngmǐn 斷眉行敏 (“Severed-Brow Xíngmǐn”), dharma-heir of 通容 Fèiyǐn Tōngróng 費隱通容 in the Línjì-Yángqí line. The catalog credit-line shù 述 (“expounded”) and the title-formula rúshì jīngyì (“sūtra-meaning as ‘thus’”) together identify the work as belonging to the rúshì hermeneutic family (cf. KR6c0073 Jīngāng jīng rúshì jiě of 無是道人) — reading the sūtra through the structural force of its opening word. Pairs with KR6c0090 Jīngāng jīng zhùjiǎng (2 juan), giving Xíngmǐn a coordinated two-volume Vajracchedikā project. Preserved as X25 no. 501. notBefore / notAfter set to 1660 / 1700 — covering Xíngmǐn’s mature monastic period (after his master Fèiyǐn’s 1661 death and before century’s end). Catalog dynasty 清.
Abstract
The opening glosses follow standard qiǎnjiě form: jīn xìng jiāngāng, néng pò wànwù; rú rén yǒu zhìhuì, néng duànjué tānchēnchī yīqiè zhū xiàng 金性堅剛,能破萬物;如人有智慧,能斷絕貪嗔癡一切諸相 (“metal’s nature is firm, able to break the myriad things; like a person possessing wisdom, able to cut off all marks of greed-anger-folly”); bōluómì glossed as dào bǐ’àn 到彼岸; the six pāramitās rapidly summarized. The signature rúshì operation appears in the body: each rúshì utterance in the sūtra (rúshì zhù, rúshì jiàngfú, rúshì shēng qīngjìng xīn, etc.) is treated as a structural-doctrinal pivot. The work is closely complementary to its sister volume KR6c0090: where the rúshì jīngyì highlights the rúshì-structured hermeneutic core, the zhùjiǎng supplies the verse-by-verse working commentary. Together they form Xíngmǐn’s two-stage Vajracchedikā pedagogy.

Other points of interest
The rúshì hermeneutic family — work titles foregrounding the structural force of rúshì — connects across multiple authors and commentary genres in this section: KR6c0073 (the layman Wúshì dàorén); KR6c0089 and the parallel Bānruò xīnjīng rúshì jīngyì (also Xíngmǐn). The shared rúshì hermeneutic operation — reading the sūtra as a sustained variation on its opening word — represents a small but distinct seventeenth-century commentary stream.
