About the work
A two-juan Chén-period meditation treatise by Huì-sī 慧思 (515–577), the second Tiāntái patriarch and Zhìyǐ’s teacher. Body attribution: Chén Nán-yuè Sī-dà chánshī zhuàn 陳南嶽思大禪師撰. The work expounds the zhū-fǎ wú-zhèng sānmèi 諸法無諍三昧 (“non-dispute samādhi of all dharmas”) — a meditative practice drawn from the Prajñāpāramitā tradition and elaborated in Huì-sī’s distinctive pre-Tiāntái-mature meditative-doctrinal synthesis.

The text opens with Huì-sī’s own framing: “As [the sūtras] expound throughout the myriad practices: from the initial arousal-of-thought to attainment of Buddha-Way — one body, one mind, one wisdom. Out of the desire to teach-and-convert sentient beings, the names of the myriad practices are differentiated. Now, [those who] desire to study all Buddha-dharmas: first uphold pure-precepts, diligently cultivate meditation; attain all Buddha-dharma’s various samādhi-gates: the hundred-and-eight samādhis, the five-hundred dhāraṇī, and the various liberations, great compassion great love, all kinds of wisdom, the five eyes, the six supernormal faculties, the three…”
Abstract
The Zhūfǎ wúzhèng sānmèi fǎmén is one of the principal pre-mature-Tiāntái Sinitic meditation treatises and one of Huìsī’s three major surviving works (KR6d0151, KR6d0152, KR6d0156). The work documents the early-Tiāntái meditative-doctrinal synthesis at the moment immediately preceding Zhìyǐ’s mature systematisation, providing essential evidence for the textual-doctrinal background to the foundational Tiāntái treatises.
The dating is bracketed within Huìsī’s productive period at Nányuè 南嶽 (Mount Hēng) c. 560–577.
