Detailed Interpretation of the Pointing-the-Essentials Notes on the Ten Non-Dual Gates by 可度 (Kědù / Wújí Kědù, 祥解); divided-and-collated by 正謐 (Zhèngmì / Yǐxuán, 分會)

About the work

A two-juan late-Sòng / early-Yuán detailed commentary by Wújí Kědù 無極可度 on Zhīlǐ’s Zhǐyào chāo (KR6d0158, T1928), with editorial fēnhuì 分會 (“division-and-combination”) work by the late-Míng monk Yǐxuán Zhèngmì 以玄正謐 of Línhǎi 臨海. The work is the principal late-Sòng-Yuán-Míng subcommentary on Zhīlǐ’s foundational shānjiā polemical work.

Abstract

Kědù’s Xiángjiě provides systematic late-Sòng / early-Yuán Tiāntái commentary on Zhīlǐ’s Zhǐyào chāo, integrating two centuries of accumulated scholastic interpretation of the work into a unified detailed exposition. The Míng editorial work by Zhèngmì subsequently reorganised the text for late-imperial readership.

The dating of the original Kědù composition is bracketed within his productive period in the late Sòng / early Yuán transition (c. 1200–1300); the editorial finalisation by Zhèngmì extends the bracket to the late-Míng period (c. 1400–1600).
