About the work
A single-juan Northern-Sòng repentance liturgy by Sì-míng Zhīlǐ 四明知禮 (960–1028) for the Jīn-guāng-míng zuì-shèng wáng jīng 金光明最勝王經 (義淨 Yìjìng’s Tang translation of the Suvarṇaprabhāsa-sūtra). The work is parallel to 遵式 Zūnshì’s Bǔ-zhù yí (KR6d0195) and demonstrates Zhīlǐ’s substantial contribution to the Sòng Tiāntái liturgical tradition alongside his polemical-doctrinal output.
Abstract
The Zuì-shèng chàn-yí belongs to Zhīlǐ’s broader liturgical productive corpus and represents the shān-jiā tradition’s contribution to the Sòng Suvarṇaprabhāsa devotional liturgy. The composition is bracketed within Zhīlǐ’s mature productive period at the Yán-qìng-sì 延慶寺 in Sì-míng, c. 996–1028.
