Huáyán yuán rén lùn fā wēi lù 華嚴原人論發微錄
Record of Drawing Out the Subtleties of the Inquiry into the Origin of Humanity of the Huáyán [School] by 淨源 (Jìngyuán, 述)
About the work
This 3-fascicle text is 淨源 Jìngyuán’s substantial Northern-Sòng commentary on 宗密 Zōngmì’s [[KR6e0105|Yuán rén lùn]] (T1886). The title — fā wēi 發微 “drawing out the subtleties” — signals the work’s exegetical aim: to make the implicit doctrinal structures of Zōngmì’s brief but doctrinally dense original text fully explicit for Sòng readers.
Prefaces
No formal preface.
Abstract
The work is conventionally datable to 淨源 Jìngyuán’s mature period at the Huìyīnsì 慧因寺 in Hángzhōu, c. 1067 – 1088 CE; the bracket adopted here reflects this window. As one of Jìngyuán’s substantial editorial-commentarial projects, the work is part of his broader Northern-Sòng programme to consolidate the Tang Huáyán-school doctrinal corpus.
The work is preserved in the Manji Xù zàng jīng (X1031) collection.

Other points of interest
- Jìngyuán’s Fā wēi lù is the principal Sòng-period commentary on Zōngmì’s Yuán rén lùn and is one of the most consequential Sòng-Buddhist doctrinal works of its kind; through it Zōngmì’s hierarchical doxography entered the SòngYuánMíng monastic curriculum.
