Wéimó jīng shū 維摩經疏
Commentary on the Vimalakīrti Sūtra (anonymous Dunhuang manuscript commentary)
About the work
The Wéimó jīng shū (T2770) is a one-fascicle anonymous Vimalakīrti commentary preserved in the Dunhuang manuscript corpus and edited into Taishō volume 85. The Taishō header cross-references No. 475 (Kumārajīva’s translation). Together with KR6i0087, KR6i0088, KR6i0090, and others, it forms the Dunhuang Vimalakīrti commentary cluster (T2768–T2778) — provincial Tang exegetical literature preserved only on the Hexi corridor.
Prefaces
The text opens directly with the commentary; the manuscript is fragmentary and lacks a preface or colophon.
Abstract
The shū genre title (commentary, gloss) distinguishes this manuscript from the yìjì genre of KR6i0087–KR6i0088 and the chāo genre of KR6i0092 and KR6i0093. The doctrinal content of T2770 reflects an early-to-mid Tang exegetical tradition with traces of Sānlùn (Three-Treatise) influence, suggesting an author trained in the 吉藏 Jízàng-school commentarial tradition. The manuscript witnesses are part of the Stein and Pelliot Dunhuang collections.
