Wéimó jīng shū 維摩經疏
Commentary on the Vimalakīrti Sūtra (anonymous Dunhuang manuscript commentary)
About the work
The Wéimó jīng shū (T2771) is another anonymous one-fascicle Vimalakīrti commentary from Dunhuang, distinct from but adjacent to KR6i0089 (T2770). The Taishō editorial team kept these as separate texts because the manuscript witnesses, paleography, and doctrinal content differ enough to indicate independent works.
Prefaces
The text opens directly with the commentary; the manuscript is fragmentary and lacks a preface or colophon.
Abstract
T2771 is part of the Dunhuang Vimalakīrti commentary cluster. The commentary’s exegetical style is direct and gloss-oriented, suggesting a teaching-text or jiǎng yì 講義 (lecture-notes) origin. The Tang dating bracket (600–850 CE) is established by manuscript paleography and doctrinal content; precise authorship and date are not recoverable.
