Jīnguāngmíng jīng xuányì shíyí jì huìběn 金光明經玄義拾遺記會本
Combined Edition of the Profound Meaning of the Sūtra of Golden Light with the Notes Gathering Remnant Meaning expounded by 智顗 (Zhìyǐ, 說), recorded by 灌頂 (Guàndǐng, 錄), commented by 知禮 (Zhīlǐ, 述), collated by 明得 (Míngdé, 會)
About the work
X356 is a two-fascicle huìběn 會本 (“combined edition”) that interleaves 知禮’s [[KR6i0305|Shíyí jì 拾遺記]] (T1784) into the body of Zhìyǐ’s [[KR6i0304|Xuányì 玄義]] (T1783) at the appropriate lemma. The result is a single working text in which the parent commentary and its eleventh-century subcommentary read in alternation, with 明得’s editorial markers indicating the division.
Abstract
The Taishō witness preserves at the head of the work a self-described preface dated 天聖元年歲次癸亥四月望日 (天聖 1, guǐhài, fourth lunar month, full-moon day = 7 May 1023), authored by 知禮 himself, defending his decision to compose the Shíyí jì: it laments that “Bǎoyún” (i.e. Yìtōng 義通, 知禮’s teacher) had begun a Suvarṇaprabhāsa gloss but died before completing it, and that “Gūshān shélíng” (i.e. Zhīyuán 智圓, the shānwài leader) had perversely cut out the guānxīn shì section. 知禮 takes up the brush “to gather what the predecessor left behind and to gather what the later man cast aside” (拾先師遺餘之義 / 拾後人遺棄之文), securing the orthodox transmission of meditative practice (xíng 行) and doctrinal teaching (jiào 教) together.
The interleaving itself is 明得’s late-Ming editorial work (mature productive period, c. 1560–1588), as identified in his DILA biography (A008323). The form became standard for late-Míng and Qīng-period Tiāntái study of the Suvarṇaprabhāsa commentaries.
