About the work
X358 is the eight-fascicle huìběn 會本 (“combined edition”) of [[KR6i0306|Wénjù 文句]] (T1785) and its [[KR6i0307|Wénjù jì 文句記]] (T1786), the wénjù counterpart to KR6i0311 (X356). Like its companion, the work interleaves the parent commentary by 智顗 / 灌頂 with the subcommentary by 知禮 at the corresponding lemmata. The longer extent (eight fascicles vs two for X356) reflects the greater length of the parent wénjù commentary and the jì subcommentary as compared with the xuányì / shíyíjì pair.
Abstract
Compiled by 明得 in the late Ming, c. 1560–1588 (his mature productive period; cf. DILA A008323). The four-author attribution in the colophon — 隋天台智者大師說 / 唐章安灌頂大師錄 / 宋四明法智大師述 / 明月亭明得大師會 — is unusual and reflects the huìběn’s status as a single unified working text drawing the entire commentarial layering of the wénjù line into one book. As with X356, of pedagogical rather than original-doctrinal value, but the standard form in which Late-Míng and Qīng-dynasty Tiāntái students engaged the parent commentaries.
