Recitation Manual for the Cintāmaṇi-Cakra Avalokiteśvara by 不空 (Bùkōng, Amoghavajra, 譯)

About the work

A one-fascicle Tángmì recitation-manual (yíguǐ 儀軌) for the Cintāmaṇi-cakra Avalokiteśvara translated by Amoghavajra (不空) under the senior-court titles 開府儀同三司特進試鴻臚卿肅國公食邑三千戶賜紫贈司空諡大鑒正號大廣智大興善寺三藏沙門. The work belongs to the Tángmì yíguǐ triad on the Cintāmaṇi-cakra (KR6j0292, KR6j0293) that supplements the four earlier dhāraṇī-sūtra recensions (KR6j0287KR6j0290).

Abstract

The opening — “依灌頂道場經,說脩陀羅尼法門” — is identical to that of the Sahasrabhuja recitation-manual KR6j0272, grounding the practice in the Guàndǐng dàocháng (Abhiṣeka-maṇḍala) framework. The procedure unfolds in the standard Tángmì sequence: bodhicitta + saṃvara, abhiṣeka, maṇḍala-visualisation, self-generation as Cintāmaṇi-cakra Avalokiteśvara, recitation of the mūla-mantra and supporting vidyā with the corresponding mudrās, homa, and dedication. The work is the most systematically Esoteric of the Tang Cintāmaṇi-cakra texts and represents the yoga-tantra approach to the deity, distinct from the more popular dhāraṇī-sūtra genre of KR6j0287KR6j0290.
