Jīngāng tóngzǐ chíniàn jīng 金剛童子持念經
Sūtra on Maintaining-Recitation of the Vajra-Youth by 失譯 (anonymous translator)
About the work
A one-fascicle anonymous (失譯) ritual manual on Vajra-Kumāra 金剛童子, the wrathful Vajra-Youth treated above in KR6j0449, KR6j0450, and KR6j0451. The Taishō header carries no translator-attribution and no compositional date, and the canwww entry (T21N1224) likewise records no responsible-statement other than 失譯 (translator unknown) and no Korean Tripiṭaka parallel — placing it in the broad layer of un-attributed Esoteric Chinese-language ritual manuals that accumulated around the central Vajra-Kumāra cycle.
Abstract
The text gives an abbreviated 持念 (Skt. japa / “maintained-recitation”) manual: visualisation of Vajra-Kumāra, his mudrā and seed-syllable, the dhāraṇī to be recited, and the standard ritual sequence (purification → invocation → recitation → dismissal). It functions as a practitioner’s compact handbook complementary to the longer doctrinal-and-ritual treatments in KR6j0449 (T1222a) and KR6j0451 (T1223). Because the text is anonymous, dated only by its inclusion in the Tang-Sòng canonical collections of the Vajra-Kumāra cycle, the dating bracket given here is conservative (Sui–Late Tang).
